Mafia 2 Review

Recently I played Mafia 2 through and I though that maybe I should make an actual review of a game for once. Well, here’s what I think of the game.

I’ll begin by introducing the game. Mafia 2 tells the story of Vito Scaletta, an Italian immigrant, who gets involved with some less-than-legal business with his childhood friend Joe. The game basically consists of driving and shooting: in each of the game’s 15 chapters you must drive around the city, completing different jobs, which usually boil down to a firefight, though it must be pointed out that this is not always the case.

Even though you have the whole city of Empire Bay to explore, the game isn’t a Grand Theft Auto clone. It’s a story-driven game and not a sandbox game (and this is what many reviewers on the web fail to see). The story itself was surprisingly immersive and the ending actually will evoked strong feelings in my case. But I’m not gonna spoil it anymore than that.

The gameplay is above average. The cover system in the game is probably the best one I’ve ever seen, but the shooting somewhat balances it. It’s fluid, but it isn’t all that exceptional. The cars in the game might divide some opinions, because they are quite hard to handle. For some people this might feel like an unnecessary pain in the ass, but I actually feel that if they were very easy to handle, the driving sequences would just be boring sequences in between the actual missions. But this way even the driving feeks like you were actually playing a game. Regarding cars, you’re actually able to forcibly take possession of any car you see in the game world (you might wanna check if there are any police nearby, though) and also bring them to a mechanic to tune their engines or “legalize” them by replacing the license plates.

The bottom line is, that Mafia 2 is quite a good game, with a good story and quite working gameplay. But if you’re looking for an open-world game, this isn’t the game you’re looking for. Instead, if you like story-driven action games, I can honestly recommend Mafia 2 for you.

Bellow is a short gameplay footage video (mainly consisting of shooting and aimless driving)  I made to show how Mafia 2 actually looks like.

Ezio Auditore of Sean Connery?

I’ll be posting just a short post today. Try to live with it.

I started playing Assassin’s Creed Revelations today. It’s a good game, but as soon as I started it, one thing struck me: Ezio looks just like Sean Connery! Just take a look at the two comparison pictures below:

So. Is this some kind of a conspiracy? I don’t know. That’s the point of conspiracies. Dun dun duuunh!

My first Android app!

Well, this isn’t directly related to video games, but I just finished an Android app and released it on Android Market. It is basically just a toolset for tabletop rpg game masters. Not very cool and exciting, but I believe this won’t be the last app I make…

The app can be found here.

Youtube videos

Recently I’ve joined forces with my fellow gamer friends. One day we realized that we could make a video about our cool Minecraft Coliseum, so we made a video of it. It can be found here. I recorded it and made some sucky music for it. Just go watch it.

Yesterday I realized that we could make content about other games than Minecraft, so I threw together a gameplay compilation of the awesome game Skyrim (if you don’t already own it, I suggest buying it immediately). Go watch it here. And don’t forget to subscribe to our channel.

Name changed

I just realized that just “Random Greatness” is an ok (and probably a better than the previous) name, so I changed it.

Back to blogging and a Reach fail

Well. I decided to write a new post to my blog after the vacation.

This’ll be quite a short post, but I’m probably going to write a longer review about a game after a little while, but more about that later.

Now to today’s topic. I just found out that a Halo Reach -clip I sent to Achievent Hunter like half a year ago was used in their Fail of the Weak -series. (In it they basically show Halo Reach -clips people send them. The topic is surprisingly fails.) I had almost forgotten I had even sent them the clip, but then in the episode 48 it finally saw the daylight. The episode can be seen here on their own website, or on Youtube.

Summer

Well, my summer break just began so I’m not gonna update very much during the summer, maybe something, but quite little.
